Shuv Coffee

Joel Banegas – Natural

$16.50$100.00

SKU: N/A Category:

This coffee comes to us from Mira Flores, a multi-generational family farm managed by Joel Banegas located in the Comayagua Department of Honduras. This is one of the lots we sourced through De La Finca by way of another connection made this summer at CoffeeFest Chicago.

This coffee has a wonderfully sweet and full body, while maintaining a great citric acidity and fruit-forwardness. We taste notes of lime, hazelnut, vanilla, and pawpaw fruit. It’s everything we look for in a natural process coffee, and more!

If you do need your coffee ground, we are happy to do so. Just leave us a message in the comments at checkout.

Orders are roasted on Wednesday and shipped on Thursday. Please get your orders in by Tuesday night to ensure for same week shipping and delivery.

About Joel Banegas

From De La Finca:
Joel Banegas is a fourth generation coffee farmer and cousin to De La Finca owner, Nelson Amador. He is our operations and milling manager in Honduras in addition to managing his own farm, Finca Mira Flores. It is our first family-owned Fair Trade Organic coffee. His son, Joel Banegas Jr., is continuing his father’s tradition with his own farm that he runs with his cousin (Delmer), Finca el Conejo.

About the Varieties

Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon variety. This mutation grows smaller (called dwarfism) allowing it to be planted closer together and bear more fruit in a smaller space. It was discovered in Brazil in the early 1900s and introduced to Guatemala in the 1940s, but it did not have widespread commercial adoption for almost three decades throughout Central America. Caturra is also known for being one of the parents of the Catimor variety of cultivars, various lines of the coffee-leaf-rust-resistant Timor Hybrid were crossed with Caturra to produce a dwarf plant with rust resistance. One such example of this commonly found in Honduras is IHCAFE 90.
